Dr Gigi Lo Sin-chi joined us as Lecturer I at SSPS in September.
Her teaching interests include sociology, social innovation, civil engagement, and ethnic minorities issues. She is also a researcher and community organiser, with research interests in migration, citizenship, and immigration detention. She is the co-founder of “Translate for Her”, an NGO that promotes ethnic-minority women’s rights and social inclusion. She holds a PhD degree in Sociology from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Mr Joseph Wong Wai-kin joined us as Lecturer I at SSPS in September.
Joseph is an experienced entrepreneurship educator with over a decade of extensive experience engaging executives, professionals, and learners across public, private, and non-profit sectors. He received an MSc in Major Programme Management from St Hugh’s College, University of Oxford, and a PgD in Entrepreneurship from the University of Cambridge's Judge Business School. His areas of expertise and interest include entrepreneurship education, entrepreneurship and corporate innovation, ecosystem development, management 3.0, Future of Work, and skills development.
Dr Vincent Wen Zhuoyi joined us as Assistant Professor at SSPS in August.
Dr Wen’s research interests include policy sciences, comparative social policy, state-society relations, and nonprofit management. He earned his PhD degree in public and social policy from the City University of Hong Kong, and bachelor’s and master’s degrees in political science from the Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, China.
Dr Echo Shang Liang joined us as Assistant Professor at SSPS in August.
Dr Shang obtained her PhD in Public Policy from the City University of Hong Kong in 2020 and was awarded the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fellowship for Postgraduate Research Students in 2019. Prior to joining EdUHK, she worked as a Research Assistant Professor at Lingnan University and as a Post-doctoral Fellow at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. With a primary research interest centered around the intersection of ethics and entrepreneurship, she focuses on examining the roles, practices, and mechanisms of business ventures with a strong overarching social purpose in contributing to social and environmental sustainability. Beyond this focus, she also has a keen interest in exploring emerging methods in social sciences, such as discrete choice experiments and artificial intelligence.
Ms Ellen Xie Yi-shan joined us as Lecturer II at MIT in August.
Ms Xie received her master’s degree and bachelor’s degree in Educational Technology from South China Normal University. Prior to joining EdUHK, she taught ICT, as well as interdisciplinary and innovative courses in Macao. Her expertise lies in STEM education, collaborative learning and robotics. She has achieved quite a few accomplishments in her field, including winning two of the highest prizes in Macao's Instructional Design Competition for her "Smart City" programme and being awarded as an "Excellent Supervisor" in an AI-related Competition. Ms Xie has authored and published a school-based STEM textbook and has also contributed to other compelling books. Additionally, she served as a committee member of the Teachers Forum in the 24th Global Chinese Conference on Computers in Education.
Dr Wang Dichen joined us as Lecturer I at MIT in August.
Dr Wang Dichen has interdisciplinary expertise in elementary mathematics education and special education. With a PhD degree in Mathematics Education and valuable frontline teaching experience, she has actively contributed to the development of school-based mathematics curricula and provided services for professional teacher development projects for local mainstream schools and special schools.
Dr Wang's primary research interest lies in the development of effective instructional designs for mathematics, with a specific emphasis on supporting students with special educational needs in their mathematics learning. In addition to her work within educational organisations, Dr Wang actively engages in a local professional teacher community known as "Teaching for Mathematising". In this community, she collaborates with teachers and educators to exchange insights and the best practices in mathematics teaching.
Dr Zheng Chen joined us as Assistant Professor at HPE in August.
Dr Zheng received her PhD in Sports Science from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2021 and continued her postdoctoral fellow training in the same department. Before that, she obtained a master’s degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2017 and a bachelor’s degree from Beijing Sport University in 2016. Her research focuses on the effects of exercise on cardio-metabolic health and ageing, and also investigates daily movement behaviours, including physical activity and sedentary behavior.
Dr Anna Wong Ling-yu joined us as Assistant Professor at HPE in July.
Dr Wong has interdisciplinary research expertise in music, well-being, and education. After obtaining her BA in Music (Cambridge), MA in Psychology of Education (London), and PhD in Education (Cambridge), she worked in health and well-being research at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the University of Hong Kong. Her key research areas included healthy ageing, school mental health, and music for well-being. She has also given lectures on qualitative and mixed research methods, positive psychology, and the psychology of suicide.
Anna’s primary research interest is in developing health and well-being interventions, especially with the use of music. She conducted the annual evaluation of “Quality Thematic Network: Promoting Wellness in School” from 2019 to 2022 and initiated the use of music therapy as a school-based intervention for psychologically at-risk students. She went on to develop “Creating a Musical Third Space in School”, an intervention programme that utilises music in therapeutic and classroom spaces to address student mental health needs and strengthen their coping resources. She also designed and conducted “S.H.I.E.L.D.S.”, a programme that trains secondary school students to be peer leaders in suicide prevention and mental health promotion.
Mr Arrow Lai Siu-wai joined us as Lecturer II at CCA in August.
Mr Lai received his bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts from Hong Kong Baptist University, and his master’s degree in Print from the Royal College of Art, London. Before joining EdUHK, Arrow worked in educational institutions in Hong Kong and London. As a printmaker from Hong Kong, he works primarily with printmaking and drawing, presenting his works through prints and other forms. His works have been exhibited internationally in Hong Kong, the UK, India and Spain.
Arrow, as a printmaking specialist, explores the concepts of printmaking techniques, material transformation and printmaking media. He creates prints in a variety of forms, from direct printmaking to prints that use a rich variety of materials in other fields.
Dr Zhang Le-xuan joined us as Research Assistant Professor at CCA in July.
Dr Zhang received her EdD from EdUHK, a master’s degree from Boston Conservatory, and a bachelor’s degree from Wuhan Conservatory. She was a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, EdUHK. Prior to joining EdUHK, she worked in public schools in Massachusetts, US, and in international schools (including an International Baccalaureate school) in Shenzhen, China. Besides working as a music teacher, she was also involved as a curriculum director and executive principal while working in international schools.
Dr Robbie Ho Ming-hon joined us as Research Assistant Professor at CCA in July.
Dr Ho is a researcher on the psychology of art, and he specialises in street performances and busking. Dr Ho focuses on the psychological side of an audience’s experience of street performances, as well as the impact of street performances on the perception of public space. Dr Ho has also extended his work to study static forms of street art such as graffiti. Furthermore, Dr Ho is experienced in teaching psychological subjects including General Psychology, Social Psychology, Behavioural Psychology, Lifespan Development, and Research Methods and Statistics.
Ms Eva Kwok Bo-ping joined us as Senior Lecturer II at HPE in July.
Ms Kwok holds a Teacher’s Certificate in Home Economics from Northcote College of Education and ACTE (Home Management) from The Hong Kong Institute of Education, with honours including Distinction and Dean’s List awards. She obtained her BA degree from Middlesex University UK and BEd degree from The Open University of Hong Kong. Additionally, she holds Master’s degrees in Psychology of Education from City University of Hong Kong, and in Nutrition, Food Science, and Technology from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Prior to joining EdUHK, she taught Home Economics and worked as a SENCO in local secondary schools.
Ms Kwok has served as a committee member for the Curriculum Development Council and Hong Kong Examination and Assessment Authority, focusing on Home Economics/Technology and living education development and HKDSE assessment. Ms Kwok has also volunteered with organisations such as the Hong Kong Red Cross and the Samaritan Befrienders Hong Kong.
Dr Joseph Ching Ping-pui joined us as Assistant Professor at SES in July.
Dr Ching received his doctoral degree in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, US, where he developed a research interest in atmospheric aerosol particles and studied their impacts on clouds and climates. He joined Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in the US as a postdoc and worked on atmospheric modelling after graduation. A few years ago, Joseph returned to the other side of the Pacific Ocean to work at the Meteorological Research Institute of the Japan Meteorological Agency, where he extended his research to study the impact of atmospheric aerosol particles on air quality and public health. Before joining EdUHK, he worked as an assistant professor at Tottori University of Japan, with his research focus on the East Asia atmosphere. He enjoys running, gazing at the sky, and strolling around the city to explore its heritage.
Dr Circle Chan Hoi-huen joined us as Lecturer I at SES in July.
Dr Chan is a highly accomplished scholar and educator with a strong background in Biochemistry, Physiology and Education. After obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Master of Philosophy in Physiology from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, she received a Doctor of Philosophy in Biology as well as Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the Hong Kong Baptist University.
Prior to joining EdUHK, she served as a lecturer at other tertiary institutions in Hong Kong. Apart from teaching courses in Biology and Health Sciences at SES, she was assigned Assistant Programme Leader of Health Studies. Her research interests include but are not limited to Biology and STEM Education. Among her published research papers in international journals and conference proceedings, her latest works were published in Frontiers in Pharmacology and also Evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medicine.
Dr Tao Lei joined us as Research Assistant Professor at SSPS in July.
Dr Tao obtained his PhD degree in Public Policy from City University of Hong Kong, a master’s degree in Public Finance and Public Policy from Renmin University of China, and a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from Xiamen University. His research interests include human resource management, behavioural public administration, behavioural genetics, E-Governance, and health policy analysis. His recent publications can be viewed in Public Administration Review, Journal of Asian Public Policy, Asia Pacific Journal of Public Administration, and Health Care Management Review, among others.
Dr Alex Zhu Yuefeng joined us as Assistant Professor at SSPS in June.
Dr Zhu has established a remarkable track record in conducting extensive research within the realm of personal finance and personal finance education. His expertise lies in the design, implementation, and evaluation of personalised financial intervention programmes, all of which seek to cultivate financial planning activities across diverse age groups. Noteworthy among Dr Zhu’s projects is the development of Python-based personalised financial projections. By leveraging this innovative approach, Dr Zhu has been able to create accurate and tailored financial forecasts for individuals. This valuable tool empowers individuals to make informed decisions about their financial future, taking into account their unique circumstances and goals.
